Seems like Independent Television (ITV) is a miserable place to work as a journalist. Hire and fire is the order of the day. All employees, rookies and veterans, are interviewed afresh every two years. But that is not all. You got to be well connected to survive. And better keep your complaints to yourself, or else.
This has been on-going for some time and the glory of the previously leading TV station is fast fading. ITV, of IPPmedia, was calmer than its comptetitors, Media Solutions and The Guardian Limited. But recently, four journalists found themselves having to pack up and leave.
News presenter Neema Mbuja was simply told her services were no longer required. Her biggest mistake was reportedly her refusal to be pushed around by her bosses.
Sudi Mnete and Jerry Muro were told to choose between remaining at ITV and traveling abroad for short courses. Mnete wanted permission for a six-month course in Germany, while Muro was to travel to the USA for a three-month course in investigative journalism.The two were not allowed to set foot in ITV premises on return.
Rose Chitala, a well-known presenter at Radio One, had sought permission to attend to her hospitalized mother. She was asked to choose between her job and her ailing mother. She quit in a huff.
