Radio Flash talk show getting popular

With all local FM radios serving their listeners with only music and recycled news from pro-government newspapers and press conferences, Radio Flash FM seems to be defying the tide by introducing an interactive morning talk show.

Until now, only Contact FM had a political talk show on Sunday afternoon called “The Cross Fire” that has hosted President Paul Kagame. Flash FM comes second into what seems like a risky venture.

Through its morning live talk show, Talkback, Radio Flash FM has managed to attract an active early morning audience discussing issues as they unfold on a daily basis.

According to the program hosts, the talk show helps keep the masses informed about current issues. The show co-hosted by Jasse ‘the African son’ and Acleo Mugisha deals with current issues of public interest, and often dwells on topics from press reports and invites listeners’ views. Sometimes they pick topical issues in the public domain.

The program is co-sponsored by Tigo Telecoms and hosts politicians, ministers and other leaders depending on the topic of the day.
According to Mugisha, the program which has aired for over three months now is able to attract fans and people are showing interest in discussing issues on radio.

“It is working. Listeners are ready to make phone calls and take part in any discussion without being selective,” he said, adding that the Media Council had permitted the radio to host any program as so long it did not incite violence.

The management plans to have the same program in vernacular to cater for the bigger audiences who cannot participate in the English program.
